Description
This album marks the tenth anniversary of Muses Trio’s debut appearance. We were unaware of the wealth of music written by women composers when we began in 2013. Since our inauguration, Muses Trio has been committed to assisting women composers become more visible by programming performances, commissioning new works, and recording albums for broadcast with music written entirely by women.
An ABC Classic FM feature album, 10 Years showcases five world premieres by women composers from across Australia: Sketches by jazz pianist and composer Louise Denson (TAS), Le Parc Monceau and Dans un Bateau for piano trio by Sally Greenaway (ACT), whose writing spans a wide assortment of styles from classical, chamber, jazz, big band, and movie soundtracks.
These works flow alongside Under the Thinking Tree, by ARIA-nominated composer and pianist Nat Bartsch (VIC) whose work resides in a space between neo-classical, chamber music, and jazz. Ella Macens’ (NSW) The Brightest Star in the Night, commissioned by the Peteris Vasks Fund, reflects on the cyclic nature of life and the expansion of ourselves during our time on Earth. Elena Kats-Chernin’s Solitudes concludes the album, commissioned by Therese’s parents Mary and Alex Milanovic.
