The Spirit & The Maiden

The Muses’ debut album, Spirit and the Maiden,  was launched in 2016 with a rare performance at Boggo Road Gaol inside the former women’s prison for the Anywhere Festival. This celebration was experienced from within the former women’s cellblock, with a special guest appearance by Vulcana Women’s Circus. Audience members extended the unique experience by attending a ghost tour before the concert, learning about the lives of some of Boggo Road’s most notorious inmates.

Spirit and the Maiden was ABC Classic’s Album of the Week, and features several world premiere recordings by Kate Neal (Australia)*, Louise Denson (Australia)*, Cécile Elton (Australia)*, alongside works by audience favourites Elena Kats-Chernin (Australia), Jennifer Higdon (USA), Judith Bingham (UK) and gorgeous gems by Amy Beach and Nadia Boulanger.
